Weeds

Weeds are a bad thing if you find them in your yard, however, my weeds are healthy happy children! Things have been non stop around our house for awhile now. These 2 kids have more on their social calendar than I do. Here is a sneak peak of a few pictures I took of them a few weeks ago. They are getting so big and I am so proud of them!

Pumpkins, Fall, and Cookie Monster... Oh My!

This week hasn't been AS hot as the middle of the summer was and we are enjoying those moments, however I don't think it's fall weather just yet. We had to make an exception today and Hadley wore her adorable pumpkin outfit for her fall pictures at school today! This kid won't sit still for a minute and HATES her picture being taken. If she knows your going to take her picture, she immediately turns her head to hide. In order to get her to look at you for a picture I have to catch her off guard and when she is not looking I have to say "Hadley!!!" and when she looks at you, you must be ready to snap that picture! She is obsessed with stickers right now, and bribing usually does not work at all with her, but it sure did work this morning.... Look at mommy for a quick picture and you can get some stickers this afternoon!! Gosh I could just squeeze her little 'fire-cracker' self!

Last year she begged to be cookie monster for Halloween. I guess I was late in the game ordering costumes and I couldn't find her size anywhere so she settled for Elmo. Holdyn right away knew he was going to be a ninja. Well, I was just looking online yesterday afternoon asking them both what they wanted to be since I need to order early so we can get what they want.... Holdyn has NO clue what he wants to be and Hadley..... well.... she immediately said "COOKIE MONSTER!!" I couldn't talk her out of it..... I thought we were past that stage. Oh well. They have plenty of cookie monster costumes still available in her size!! *sigh* Maybe next year she will move on to something else!

NEED

There are needs vs. wants... well I have a need. Before I bore you (whether you like it or not) and I tell you about my terribly horribly no good horrific depressing overwhelming day, and my struggle with confusing FIRST GRADE homework.... yes FIRST grade... Let's not even begin to talk about 2nd grade...I might give myself a panic attack just thinking about anything beyond 1st grade.... I thought I would share a NEED with you. Yes I know it is on the higher end of the price range, however, it would save my back a lot of grief and it would save a lot of my time and quite frankly it MIGHT just put me in a better mood most days..... and I might not have to have the maid come as much as she does now! Just think... Having the maid not come only like 4 times would pay for this bad boy. I introduce to you the "I-Robot Pet" product.....

http://www.amazon.com/iRobot-Roomba-Vacuum-Cleaning-Robot/dp/B008LX6JWG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376953466&sr=8-1&keywords=roomba+pet+series

Yes, it would be a life saver, and YES, you would be my best friend if one showed up at the front door one day very soon. I rarely have NEEDS.... just the occasional wants, however in my book that is packed full of everything from point A to point Z, there is no question what so ever that this is an immediate NEED!!!! PLEASE :)

P.S. I am hearing a NON STOP barking from "Mrs. Zellner's" house and I am about to have to go have some words with somebody..... I am in *that* mood. This day just keeps getting better and better!

Summer Fun

Super Mom here picked THE hottest day in Savannah at Forsyth Park to schedule a photo shoot for the young-ins. Hot doesn't even begin to describe how we were feeling. I think we pretty much melted the hour that we were there. Here are a few sneak peeks from the shoot. The rest are for an uber secret project so you can't see those just yet :) Enjoy!

Heartbreaker

Don't fall over.... It really is me :) Things have been a whirlwind around here. That's an understatement but the best I could sum it up. When my laptop died and a lost most everything on it (Unit my wonderful savy-tech honey could save SOME of my most precious belongings) and was declared 'dead', it was decided that it must be replaced and we decided to go with a desktop... not a laptop. Ever since then my blogging has gone down the tube. I can't blog anymore laying in bed trying to keep one eye open at night, and I have to be in the office which keeps me away from the kids and their obvious tricks and stunts they pull when mom is not in sight! We have lots to catch up on (The good, the bad, the ugly with the kids, Mathis' 1st birthday party, Easter, Holdyn's 1st plane ride, the death of Holdyn's friend Evan, etc.) so let's see if we can get back on track here.

Holdyn is really enjoying his 2nd season of baseball. This year they are the 'rattlers'. He LOVES snakes and coach Pops picked out the name... just for HoHo! At his game last week they had just finished and he came to me and said "Mom, I am going to watch my girlfriend play" and he ran off. I knew his little friend McKayla was playing on the field next to us because I kept catching him off in dream land staring over there to see what she was doing. At one point DURING his game, I found him in HER dugout!! At the end of our game I heard someone say "Holdyn left his hat and glove in the middle of the field!" That is VERY out of character for Holdyn. He always makes sure he has everything back in his back and in order. Sure enough, he had dropped all of his gear on the field to go faster to watch McKayla play! He made us stay the entire time for an entire different game just to watch her! It was so cute.... and they are both #5!!

Here is McKayla. Her mommy and daddy are on our fishing team and we are good friends with them.

Recently, I have met another mom that has a little girl Holdyn's age. We live in the same neighborhood, and she called me asking for help when she was planning Evan's memorial service. Her daughter is in Kindergarten at the same school Holdyn goes to but they are not in the same class. They came over last weekend to drop something off and ended up staying until the wee hours of the morning playing. They had a BLAST! They have a younger little boy so Hadley got to play too and wasn't left out of all the fun. Her mom sent me a text message yesterday telling me the 'note' she found in Shelby's bookbag that she came home from school with. She said it had Holdyn's name on it and she was telling me how cute it was and she was dying to know did he write it. She sent me a picture of the front and back of the 'note':

Sure enough.... guess who's handwriting and drawing skills that is.... HOLDYN!! Usually he is VERY shy about stuff like this but I asked him when he got home yesterday and he was very proud. He said "YEP... that was ME! I wrote that while waiting in the bus line and put that on Shelby's desk when she wasn't at school yesterday!!" OMG I could have died! Here is Shelby playing with Hadley last weekend:

He must have a 'thing' for brunettes!!

When we were in Texas, he went to the playground and picked me an entire bouquet of flowers. How sweet is that?!!!

A couple a weeks ago I went to look at Hadley before I went to bed and this is what I found:
Ha! True princess right there! Dedication!

Hadley has already called me 4,830 times while I have been writing this and Robbie is working right next to we so I have to get up and run to her for every whimper so she won't come in here and bother him.... Another reason why the blog has taken a temporary back seat. I am used to being 'wireless' and not having to be connected and tied down to things. This will be an adjustment for all of us!!

Pack the Park!

"Pack the Park" day for Evan was today. It was a rainy day but we got out in the mess anyways to support the little guy (he was discharged from the hospital today and gets to stay away until Thursday when they will re-test his bone marrow to find out if the chemo/radiation has worked this round).

Hadley looks less than thrilled (she looks SO serious but I don't think she has a 'serious' bone in her body!!) but she had so much fun running around!

Mrs. Shatto (teacher) and Mrs. Wright (parapro)!! I haven't gotten a picture of them together all year so I was glad to get that done today!

Gnate the nat (the Savannah Sand Gnats baseball team's mascot) came out to support Evan! Here he is with Santy and Holdyn :)

I ended up helping with the event while Pops and MawMaw chased the kiddos so I didn't get too many pictures.

Holdyn's Kindergarten Class

From our local newspaper:

Neighbors offer helping hand to Evan Nelms, family

Ribbon sales ongoing, festival set for Feb. 23

(Holdyn is the 3rd child standing... and look closely and you can see the monkey sitting towards the back sitting on the floor wearing a yellow shirt!)

Dozens of students at Richmond Hill Elementary and Richmond Hill Primary schools showed up to class Monday decked in orange to support local resident Evan Nelms in his battle with leukemia.
And though Evan, a 5-year-old kindergartner in Patricia Shatto’s class at Richmond Hill Primary School, wasn’t there physically, he was there in spirit, represented by a large stuffed monkey that goes nearly everywhere with the class.
“Evan’s mother brought it in at the beginning of the school year,” Shatto said. “It reminds us that even though he is not here in body, he is here in spirit. We love and care for him because he loves and cares for us.”
Evan was diagnosed in April of last year with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), a rare and aggressive form of cancer, according to his mother, Evette Cooper. By September, Evan had concluded all treatment and was in remission, but the cancer relapsed in early January, and within one week had spread to his bone marrow and his right eye.
Shatto said the children love having the monkey represent Evan, and they take it to nearly every activity the class participates in — including story time, lunch and other daily activities. The monkey sits in Evan’s seat and is cared for by 6-year-old student John Osteen who sits beside Evan when he is well enough to attend school.
John said Evan is one of his good friends. Even though John said he “feels bad” for Evan because he is sick, he said it makes him feel good to be in charge of the monkey.
“I love you, Evan,” he said.
Evan’s fellow classmates have also helped decorate Shatto’s classroom door, and they wrote notes to Evan to create a wall mural in the hallway depicting how much they care for him.
“We miss him so much, and he is our hero,” Shatto said.
In addition to dressing in orange, students and parents were asked to bring donations of $1 or more to be sent to Evan’s family to help with medical costs.
Evan and his parents are currently at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania while Evan undergoes chemotherapy and radiation while awaiting a bone marrow transplant. As of Tuesday, Cooper said Evan had received two rounds of “heavy-duty” chemo and nine sessions of sedated radiation to his eye.
“He is doing well,” Cooper said in an email. “He has gotten sick a few times but overall he is staying ‘EVANSTRON.’”
Cooper said Evan will continue daily radiation to his right eye for a total of 12 sessions, though he may not regain vision in that eye.
“The main goal is to get Evan back into remission with heavy-duty chemo and radiation. This may take a month to three months; we pray for remission,” Cooper wrote. “He has to be in remission to go to transplant. Bone marrow transplant is very risky ... (and) will take approximately 100 days.
“Doctors told us we will be here for six to eight months. No matter how long, we will stay to save our son’s life. Nothing matters except Evan and saving him.”
Cooper said Evan still does not have a bone marrow transplant match, and she encouraged Bryan County residents to register to become bone marrow donors.
“A desperate mother pleads for you to get tested — you may be the one to save Evan’s life. And if not Evan, then possibly someone else,” Cooper said.
Local schools aren’t the only ones banding together to help Evan and his family. Purcell said she and two other friends, Stephanie Merchant and LeAnn Flemmings, have come together to host a fundraiser for Evan’s family on Feb. 23 in J.F. Gregory Park.
Another ongoing fundraiser for Evan and his family is the “‘Orange’ ya gonna help Evan” orange bow fundraiser hosted by Cindy Udinsky.
“My son is in Evan’s kindergarten class, and so it just really hit close to home. And I thought if I was ever in this situation, I knew our school and community would come together and help support me if our family ever came into this situation,” Udinksy said.
Udinksy is selling big orange bows for $10 each, with all proceeds going to Evan’s family. She said she wanted to help in a way that would not only raise money, but also allow Evan to see how much he is cared for.
“I was trying to think of something different … and I went back to the bow on mailbox if you have a baby coming home from hospital,” Udinsky said. “And orange is the color of leukemia (awareness ribbons), so why not wrap this town in orange for when he comes home.
“So it’s not just monetary donations — yes, he is getting that, but now he can physically see something when he’s riding home and going to school. Even though he’s only 5 and a half, I think he’ll be able to understand, “Those are for me, people care about me and are supporting me.’”
As of Tuesday, Udinsky had sold nearly 40 bows in less than 24 hours. To purchase a bow, residents can call 912-308-3774.
